It's actually HAPPENED! ⠀ If you're an avid Instagram follower you might already be in the know, but after two long years of contracts going backwards and forwards, 24 months of watching SEVEN of my friends buy and move into homes, (I say only seven, because after that I started to unfriend anyone else who dared to even consider buying a house!) I can finally say I'm a home owner! ⠀ ...Well, when I say ‘home', I mean a few bricks, beams, and walls with massively large gaps in. ⠀ Should I back up a bit?! ⠀ ⠀ During a Christmas party in 2017 my dad actually found my dream home, but didn’t tell me about it until January 2018 once he knew it was a possibility that I could buy it. I was incredibly luckily that the building never touched the market, (I might not have been able to afford it otherwise!), but it certainly didn’t come without it’s own complications! We secured a price for the building back in that January 2018, however it’s unfortunately taken this long to sort out the many MANY legal aspects of the property making sure I can renovate it with no massive complications.
Should I give you a little bit of the low-down?! BASICALLY... the building is an empty barn, so I need to put all the mains in, (electricity, water, sewerage etc etc - all the fun stuff!) BUT, the problem came when me and the owner at the time found out that we would need to pull the electricity line through a meter of land owned by the local church. I was naive and at the time didn't realise how much of a nightmare that one little fact was and until the church legally let us do that, the sale couldn't go through. I won't dwell on the two years of work, the two years of chasing, the use of FOUR solicitors firms between all parties, and the many months of thinking it would never end up happening. ⠀ However, 24 months down the line, with all the red tape behind me, and plenty of mood boards and architectural designs ahead of me, I finally officially own my very own property as of Thursday the 14th November! ⠀ People keep telling me the hard part is about to start since it needs an ENTIRE renovation, however how I see it is, if I can still be as much in love with the property 24 months later after all the blood, sweat and plenty of profanities along the way, nothing can spoil what’s ahead of me! ⠀ So, here’s to taking the next step, a new home and potentially the biggest project of my life! ⠀ I would also just love to say a massive thank you to all my couples who have been asking how the barn is going and wishing me luck that it’ll finally go through. Lots of you have been there along the way, so don’t worry, I’ll certainly be taking you along the journey of my renovations! ⠀ ...And to my friends who have heard my potty mouth regarding the whole saga for the past 2 years, you have been saints! ⠀ ⠀ #thenextstep⠀
P.S. Don't you worry - I'll be keeping you up to date with all the renovations and designs over the next 12-18 months! #thenextstep will be my first blog series!
